The Minnesota Vikings will be looking to pick up a Monday night victory in New Orleans when they head south for a game versus the Saints. Here's your Daily Sports Roundup.
The Gridiron Spotlight
The Vikings were a dark horse pick to win the NFC North division this season, but through four games they've only been able to grab one victory (and cover the spread just once). Minnesota will be looking to avoid falling farther down the division standings on Monday night when they play their prime time road game down in New Orleans.
The Saints got back into the win column last weekend, knocking off the Niners 31-17. However, New Orleans had entered that contest on a two-game skid and they sit at just 2-2 on the season. Betting on the Saints has been fairly lucrative, though, as they've managed to post an against-the-spread victory in three of their four contests to date.
The last time these two teams met was back on September 25, 2005, when the Vikings cruised to a 33-16 home win. Minnesota had no trouble covering the 4.5-point spread in that contest, while the combined score went OVER the posted total of 44.5 points. For Monday night's game the Saints are 3-point Vegas favorites, and the total is at 46.5.
Other Notable Events
The White Sox will be looking to tie up their ALDS with the Rays on Monday night when they play host to Game 4 of the series. Chicago will send Gavin Floyd (17-8, 3.84 ERA) to the mound in that contest. Floyd won his last start, giving up just one earned run on five hits over six innings versus the Tigers on September 29. Tampa Bay will counter with Andy Sonnanstine (13-9, 4.38 ERA). Sonnanstine was knocked around by the Tigers in his last outing, and he hasn't picked up a victory since his start on August 18.
The Angels will also be trying to knot their ALDS at 2-2 when they play Game 4 in Boston on Monday night. That contest will feature a rematch between Los Angeles' John Lackey and Boston's Jon Lester, who both pitched in Game 1. Lester won that game after allowing just one unearned run on six hits over his seven innings of work. Lackey surrendered two earned runs on four hits over 6 2-3 innings to take the defeat.
The Rest of the Schedule
There's nothing else on Monday except an Islanders/Panthers preseason NHL contest.
